McNulty: Players have no excuses if changes are made for Yeovil

Luton fell to their first defeat of the campaign on Tuesday night, beaten 1-0 at Kenilworth Road by Bristol Rovers, with the hosts turning in a woeful showing in which they failed to test Pirates keeper Aaron Chapman.

McNulty said: “If you look at the bench and look at the lads sitting in the stands, he’s (John Still) got enough options and if he does change it, I don’t think anyone can knock on his door and ask why you’re not in the team and why he’s changed it.

“We’ve done all right against Oxford and maybe Accy Stan, overall the three performances on a whole weren’t good enough though. We need to be picking more points up.

“We’re in a business where you need to get results and if you’re not getting results, you’re going to find yourself not playing and in the stands.

“He brought enough players in this season to make it decent competition for places. If you’re not doing it and not scoring goals or not defending, conceding goals, you’re going to find yourself out of the team.

“That’s the whole point of bringing in the quality of squad he did, there’s a lot of choice to pick from, and the better players are here to have that competition for places.”

Although Hatters have just taken two points from their opening three games and are still searching for a first league victory, McNulty, who has made 117 appearances for the club, is refusing to hit the panic button, pointing to previous campaigns.

He added: “We’re generally slow starters in the season as all the seasons I’ve been here we’ve started slow.

“We lost against Southport on the first game of the Conference and then we won it, we started slow last season and this season it looks like we’re starting it slow.

“We’re going to have our ups and downs, but it’s a bit too early for people to be panicking, It’s just a case of getting the right mix of players and new players.

“We usually finish strong, so hopefully that’s the case again, but we need to start picking up points and learn from that game as they’re coming thick and fast.”
