The summer signing from Bournemouth failed to score in his first 15 matches for the Hatters until opening his account against Plymouth recently.

A brace at the Checkatrade.com Stadium took McQuoid’s tally to three in three games and he revealed that manager John Still has played a big part in his scoring form.

He said: “The gaffer had a words with me and a few of the other coaching staff did as well, telling me I just need to shoot more.

“Maybe sometimes I try and be a bit too clever, try and pass it when I should be shooting.

“I’ve tried to take that into my game a bit more, have a few more efforts at goal and thankfully its paid off.

“You’re always waiting for that first one and I had to wait 10-plus games to get my first goal, but then to get three in a couple of weeks, hopefully that starts the ball rolling.”

Although McQuoid is now just two away from his tally from the whole of last season, boss Still always felt his recent acquisition could help Luton’s front-line.

He said: “I think Josh’s form has improved and improved from when we started.

“He hadn’t had a lot of football, but people are seeing now he is a good player.

“We had a chat, he had to add goals to his game and he’s got three in his last four games now, so hopefully he can do that. He’s got great feet and people don’t realise, he’s very strong in possession when he’s running.

“He can score goals, he’s got to believe he can score goals.

“They were two different goals which is pleasing, one’s a goalscorers goal and the other he’s found the finish from a wide angle, so terrific.”

On McQuoid’s match-winning double at the weekend, team-mate Elliot Justham added: “Josh has been playing well.

“Everyone knows he’s been playing wide and been excellent, but it was nice for him to get two goals. One was an absolute cracker as well, so it was brilliant for him.”
