Moncur insists the FA Cup is still important for players

Town match-winner George Moncur insists the FA Cup is still a competition taken seriously by players these days.

The former West Ham and Barnsley man was part of a much-changed Luton side who saw off Reading 1-0 in the third round on Saturday, courtesy of the midfielder's wonderful volley on the half hour, his third goal of the season.

That was enough to put them in the hat for the fourth round, as although a number of teams put out weakened XIs over the weekend, and have done for a good few years now, Moncur believes it is still a tournament that catches the imagination, saying: "It’s great, everyone wants a good run in the FA Cup, as I’d say it’s the biggest one.

"So to get that win and get through to the next round is great and I can’t wait to see who we’re playing next.

“As a kid you always used to watch it and Chorley beat Derby, so they’re still in it and that’s massive for them.

"As long as we’re in the hat for the next round, you could get whoever really."

When asked who he wanted to be paired with in tonight's draw, which is being made at 7.10pm live on BT Sport, Moncur added: "I don’t really mind to be fair, for me it’s just about getting game time and playing, so no matter who it is I’ll just try and play as best I can.

“I played Tottenham for Barnsley at Wembley (in the EFL Cup) as they had games there didn't they, and that was unreal because you got close up and personal with a lot of the first team players there.

"They played the majority of their squad that day and we got beat (1-0), but it was a great game."
