Money: We should have seen out victory

Late goals deflate Town’s title bid

TOWN chief Richard Money felt his side should have been able to see out victory on Tuesday night as they fell to their first home defeat of the season, writes Mike Simmonds.

Big-spending Crawley Town fired in two goals in the final 10 minutes to earn a famous win at Kenilworth Road and deliver a severe jolt to the Hatters’ title aspirations.

The Red Devils pounced on some sloppy defending from the hosts, as they gifted Richard Brodie and Craig McAllister time and space for their goals.

Money said: “We’ve got ourselves in front and really we should be good enough.

“Nine times out of 10 we would see that game through and probably go on and get another one.

“We should have gone back in front at 1-1, but they’ve got a good bench themselves.

“They put four forwards on and went for it.

“They got themselves back in the game, but I don’t think we sat back at all, I thought we played well, really well.”

A crowd 6,895 cheered Luton on, with just 153 present from Crawley, an embarrassing effort for a top of the table side with genuine hopes of winning the title.

Money insisted he felt for the Town fans who saw the hosts defeated and now have a prolonged break before their side are back in action.

He said: “The supporters have gone away disappointed and I feel sorry for them.

“I feel sorry for the players for once as I genuinely think their efforts deserved a hell of a lot more than what they came off the pitch with.

“We’ve now got a 10-day break in which we’ll regroup and go again.

“It shouldn’t fail people to see that we’ve now played everybody in the top 11 bar Wrexham and we’ve been travelling all over the country, so we think we’ve had a particularly tough start.”
