The 30-year-old was taken off during the Hatters’ defeat to Burton on Saturday and manager John Still is unsure as to how long the Welsh midfielder, who has only played 16 games this season, will be on the sidelines.

Still said: “I don’t believe in luck but I’m going to use it, the bad luck that man has had this season is incredible.

“He has just got himself fit, back into the team and then this. We took him off Saturday because I know Alex and I could look at him and see he wasn’t right.

“We had him checked out after and we found out he had shingles, what can you say.

“I don’t know how long he will be out for, if you say it will be two weeks then it could be six. That’s the situation though and it’s better to laugh about it than grumble.”

In more positive news for Town, the Luton boss confirmed that full-back Scott Griffiths pulled through the Burton game without any problems and should be available for another 90 minutes at Dagenham on Tuesday evening.

“He’s trained today (Monday) but it wasn’t a heavy day,” added Still. “We’ll see how it all pans out on Tuesday before we have a look at him but yes, he came through on Saturday and hopefully he’ll be available tomorrow.”
