Town forward Carlton Morris has described strike partner Elijah Adebayo as ‘someone to get very excited about’ for the Hatters.

The 24-year-old moved to Kenilworth Road back in February 2021 from Walsall and after scoring five goals in the second half of the season, managed an impressive 17 in his first full term at Championship level, a huge reason why Luton went on to reach the play-offs.

With such success on the pitch came plenty of speculation about his future, while after a hamstring injury curtailed his campaign, Adebayo struggled at the beginning of the new season, going 10 games without finding the net.

He admitted to being hampered by some off the field problems, but having come through those following the international break, the striker was then up and running with a brace in the 3-3 draw against Huddersfield, also notching as Luton defeated QPR 3-1 last weekend.

Morris, who has been flying since his move from Barnsley in the summer, had been paired with the forward for four of the last five games until Tuesday night’s trip to Norwich City, when Adebayo dropped to the bench, as Harry Cornick was used instead.

On his team-mate, Morris said: “He’s a brilliant player, he's a proper handful and I can’t believe how young he is.

“He’s got so much more to give in this game and in this football club, he's someone to get very excited about.

“He was getting ridiculously unfortunate for a while, but cream rises at the end of the day.

"It was only a matter of time before he started finding the back of the net again.”

With Adebayo scoring three goals in his last four outings, Morris himself has got to seven with the winner at his former side in midweek, picking out the bottom corner at Carrow Road with real aplomb.

Although the ex-Fulham youngster has insisted he is determined to finish as the club’s leading marksman once more, Morris, who has set up all three of Adebayo’s goals, will carry on looking to do that as much as he can.

He continued: “I don't really think of it as much as a battle.

"I've got three assists for him already this season, I want to make that more and more each time we play together, same with Harry Cornick.

"I had a chance in the first half (against Norwich) when I rolled a defender and squared it across to H, unfortunately it didn’t come to fruition with a goal on this occasion, but I want to make as many goals for my strike partners as I can.”

Morris will now be looking to do the same on Sunday afternoon when the Hatters head to old foes Watford for their first trip with fans present since 2006.

Although it’s a huge match for the travelling Luton supporters, the striker knows the players need to keep cool heads at Vicarage Road, adding: “You have to be careful not to get sucked in too much to playing the occasion.

“We’ve got to play the game, focus on it, we’ll do our analysis, see what they’re good at, where their weaknesses are and try and expose that as best we can.

“We’ll train hard, listen to what the staff are giving us, they're giving us loads of great information, take that on board and keep executing gameplans.

“They've done an amazing job of keeping the team perfectly well balanced, we’ve got workhorses, but we've also got quality.

“It's a deadly blend and when we’re at it we can beat anyone.”
