Town midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu hopes that Saturday’s 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Watford can only give further evidence that both he and the club are established in the Championship now.

The 27-year-old gave a starring display at Kenilworth Road as up against a vastly more experienced midfield, he bossed proceedings, driving Luton to a first home win over their great rivals since 1993.

It saw the Hatters climb up to 13th in the table too, as Mpanzu said: “100 per cent (I feel) a Championship player.

“This is a Championship club, we’ve know that since we went up.

"The manager has been talking about it since I’ve been here, so now we’re established, hopefully we can keep pushing on.

“Personally I think it’s been an up and down season, but hopefully I have put in the performances to say that I am a Championship player, Luton is where they belong and I hope we can continue.”

This term has been a major turnaround from last season when the Hatters only stayed up on the final day of the campaign by beating Blackburn Rovers after looking for long periods like they would drop back to League One.

On why he thinks they haven't ever been struggling near the bottom this time, Mpanzu added: “It was our first season in the Championship so there’s going to be some ups and downs.

“We’ve got to that magic 50 point mark against Preston, so we’ve got to keep going.

“There’s only four or five games left, we’ve got to keep pushing, finish as high as we can and finish the season strong.
