Town midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu wants his side to continue their impressive start to the season after this weekend’s international break.

The Hatters headed into some much needed time off in fine fettle on Saturday, defeat struggling Wycombe Wanders 2-0 at Kenilworth Road.

Mpanzu got the ball rolling with a wonderful strike, while Elliot Lee added a second, to make it three wins from four in the league this term, lifting Luton to fifth in the fledgling table.

The former West Ham youngster said: “We aim to win every game, we’ve got to be realistic, but we have to try and we’ll take nine points out of 12.

"It’s a great start and hopefully after the international break we can do that (carry on).

“When we come back there’s going to be games thick and fast, we’ve got a great squad depth, we’re all together, so we’ll have a couple of days break and come back stronger.

“It was flat against Watford (in the previous game), but it was a good test for us.

"We lost 1-0, but we knew that we could challenge teams up there, we came back well and three points.

“The squad is looking very strong so hopefully that can continue.”

It took Luton a good nine games to reach their current tally of nine points last season, at which stage they had already conceded 21 goals, as opposed to the two this term.

On why the Hatters look in much better shape, Mpanzu continued: “Maybe because we have one more year’s experience in the Championship, coming up first season it was difficult as you’ve got to adjust yourself.

"Now we’re adjusted, so we know how to play, we have our solutions that we work on every week and we came together.

“We had a great run at the end of the season, and continued that so we’ve always got to look forward.”

Another huge factory is the return of manager Nathan Jones, who has led Town to seven wins from 13 games, a feat that took 26 matches to achieve last term.

On being reunited with the Welshman, whom Mpanzu excelled under during his first spell in charge, he added: “Graeme Jones did well for us, give him all respect, but he (Nathan Jones) knows the squad, he’s come back and done a great job.

"He’s got us playing in the style that wants.

"He’s come back, he knows the club, knows each and every player, so he's come back and done a great job."
