Neilson tips transfer market to fire up

HATTERS assistant manager Alan Neilson is predicting the transfer market will start to whir into motion once clubs return for pre-season training this week, writes Mike Simmonds.

Town have had a fairly quiet close season in terms of player recruitment, signing Aaron O’Connor and Dean Beckwith.

Hatters have also released Lloyd Owusu and Adam Newton, Luke Graham has returned to Kettering, while Jason Walker has joined York City, but according to Neilson, supporters shouldn’t be worried by the lack of new signings, insisting Town are patiently biding their time.

He said: “If you look at a lot of teams, the transfer market is very quiet at the moment.

“Once teams start going back, then by the end of July, it will start to get really busy.

“Everyone is looking and teams might be chasing the same player.

“We just have to make sure we get the right player for Luton Town and have to make sure they will fit into our team.”

Player movement higher up the leagues might have the desired effect for Town too, allowing clubs further down the echelons to start completing their business as Neilson added: “There can be that domino effect as the right player becomes available and of course at the right price as well.”
