New Luton signing Norrington-Davies is ready to test himself in the Championship

New Town addition Rhys Norrington-Davies is looking forward to his first taste of Championship action after becoming the Hatters’ fourth summer signing yesterday.

The 21-year-old Sheffield United left back followed Jordan Clark, Tom Lockyer and James Bree into the building as Luton boss Nathan Jones looked to bolster up his defensive options for the new campaign.

It will be the Welsh U21 international’s first taste of life at this level, having had previous spells with Barrow in the National League and then League One Rochdale last term, featuring 34 times for the Spotland club.

On the chance to test himself in the second tier, Norrington-Davies said: “I have had a couple of loans in the past.

"Two seasons back I went on loan to Barrow, that was a good stepping stone for me, obviously my first taste of men’s football and I really enjoyed my time there, I managed to pick up quite a few games.

"Then last season I was at Rochdale, much the same really.

"It was a bit of a shame the way the season ended with COVID but I’m looking forward to getting back to playing football now and seeing what the Championship brings.

“I have known about this for quite a while now, it has just been about getting it over the line.

"I’m looking forward to joining the lads, happy to be here, over the moon.

“I sat down with the gaffer and he has gone over how he likes to play, what he wants from me this season and I'm just looking forward to getting going, obviously this weekend against Norwich and then the start of the Championship season the weekend after.”

Having come in from Bramall Lane where he was under tutelage of Chris Wilder, Norrington-Davies was eager to work with another forward-thinking manager and fellow Welshman, Jones.

He continued: “The main reason for coming here is I like the way the gaffer plays.

“I believe in what he says and I’m looking forward to getting playing, believing in his philosophy and getting out on the pitch, doing what we do best, playing football and getting the wins in.

“It’s really good facilities too. I was welcomed by all the staff here, all the physio team.

“The gym, the training pitches, it’s all very good and I’m looking forward to getting down to the stadium and playing in front of the fans and seeing what they bring.

"It’s very good here and I’m looking forward to the experience.”

On what the Hatters can expect to see from the full back whom is tipped to challenge for a place in the Blades side next term, Norrington-Davies added: “Very attacking, athleticism.

"I’m going to give it my all and make sure I do right on the pitch.

"Hopefully from the performances, get the fans behind me, get the fans behind us at Luton and kick on this season.”
