Luton Town's game against Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth will be played in front of an empty stadium once more after health secretary Matt Hancock confirmed that Bedfordshire will move in tier three restrictions at 00.01am on Saturday.

The Hatters had welcomed back supporters for their last two home matches with Norwich City and Preston North End, leading to their two best performances of the campaign, recording 3-1 and 3-0 victories.

However, they will once again be forced to close the doors at Kenilworth Road, with Hancock staying in a statement to the House of Commons this morning: "No-one wants tougher restrictions longer than necessary.

"We've come so far, we mustn't blow it now."

Speaking ahead of the decision on Monday, boss Nathan Jones had hoped that supporters would be allowed to attend the match, but this now won't happen.

With the next review of the tiers at the end of the month, Town's home match with Bristol City on December 29 will be behind closed doors, while it is also highly unlikely supporters will be allowed in for the game against QPR on Saturday, January 2 either.
