Oduwa could be handed starting role

Spurs youngster Nathan Oduwa could be in line to play more of a starring role with Luton in the promotion run-in.

The 19-year-old has made just three starts since signing on loan until the end of the season, with boss John Still preferring to use him as an impact sub.

However, after an impressive cameo against Portsmouth at the weekend, when asked if he was in his mind for a start at Newport tomorrow night, Still said: “He is, but as we did when we spoke to Tottenham, we’re fully aware with Nathan that it’s not too much too early.

“We have started with him and he’s sometimes found it difficult, so we’ve found that bringing him on has been a help, now we may extend the amount of time.

“Nathan understands the roles now, when he first came, he wasn’t quite sure he understood the role that’s why we were only giving him a certain amount of time.

“Nathan has done well and did come on and look lively. It’s an interesting situation with him and the amount of time we want to give him, but the longer he’s been on, the more we might start to see him.”

West Ham striker Elliot Lee is also nearing being considered on a regular basis too after just two starts, while he was an unused sub at Fratton Park on Saturday.

Still added: “Elliot Lee has come in and looked very sharp when he’s come on, but he came having not played a lot of football.

“So we’ve tried to work with him in training to get into a position where we can go, this is the time you can get consecutive games in.

“He’s on that edge as well and we do find ourselves with him a bit fitter now, a bit more ready.”
