Midfielder Eunan O'Kane has given the Hatters a timely boost ahead of the new Championship campaign after joining in with pre-season training this morning.

The 30-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United, hasn't played a competitive game since suffering a horrific double leg break while in his first stint with Luton, that during a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers on September 15, 2018.

O'Kane who began his career with Everton, played for Coleraine, Torquay United and Bournemouth, making over 100 appearances for the Cherries, before heading to Elland Road in 2016.

Although featuring over 50 times for the Whites, he fell out of favour under Marco Bielsa, not playing for Leeds since May 2018.

Despite being injured, he returned to Kenilworth Road in the January transfer window, with the intention of getting fit for the new campaign, as the club tweeted footage of him taking part in some light training drills this morning.

Speaking about the midfielder, who has won seven caps for the Republic of Ireland, when returning the club last month, boss Nathan Jones, who originally signed him for Luton back in August 2018, said: "He was an outstanding player before he got injured so now we're hoping he returns back to that kind of level and if he does, we've got a wonderful player.”
