The Hatters moved ahead through Mick Harford's first half header, but couldn't add to their tally, as Forest hit back in the second period with goals from Nigel Clough (2) and Neil Webb to lift the cup, winning 3-1. Below, the Luton News takes a special look at just who took to the field for Town that day.
1. Les Sealey
Goalkeeper played all nine games in the competition, as he brought down Steve Hodge for a penalty that Nigel Clough tucked away. Unable to prevent Neil Webb and then Clough sealing the win.
2. Tim Breacker
Full back was used as a substitute in the early stages of the competition, before returning for the 1-1 draw against Southampton in round five and playing every match afterwards.
3. Ashley Grimes
Left back also missed the early stages, coming in against Southampton and keeping his place from then on. Almost scored a cracking strike, his drive tipped over by Steve Sutton.
4. David Preece
Missed the first three matches, as he started the 3-1 win over Manchester City, staying in the side until Town returned to Wembley.
