Out of contract Smith would love to stay at Luton

The 28-year-old, who signed for Luton in November 2012 and has made 97 appearances in that time, scoring five goals, is out of contract at the end of the season.

However, Smith is desperate to extend his Hatters stay as he said: “I’m playing for my future as well, my contract is up at the end of the season and I’ve got to prove to the club that they want to keep me.

“I love this club to bits. I know it’s easy to say that, but I really enjoy playing for Luton and I’d be very sad if I didn’t get to play any more.

“My aim was to get promotion and I’ll do everything I can to get that and hopefully that shows in the manner of my performances.”

Smith confirmed talks with boss John Still had yet to take place on his future, as he continued: “Not quite as yet. I think the main thing was I had a little bit of an injury with my knee, I wanted to come back strong and hopefully the time will come to speak about that.”

With team-mate Nathan Doyle agreeing a new one year contract recently, Smith wants to follow suit and continue their central midfield partnership.

He said: “Nathan has been fantastic since he’s come here. I really enjoy playing with him, he’s a good character on and off the pitch and I think we’ve got a good partnership in there.

“I was disappointed when he had to go off (against Dagenham) and I’d like to keep that going with him.”
