Pilkington not dwelling on Fleetwood fiasco

Skipper wary of Newport test

A FRIDAY night in Newport is unlikely to be an easy trip for the Hatters according to captain George Pilkington, writes Mark Wood.

The Welshmen are currently chasing a play-off spot, but Town will be determined to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Fleetwood Town.

Pilkington said: “It’s all on the training ground. That’s where you listen and learn and there’s a lot to go through.

“It takes time to reflect and spoils everyone’s weekend but we’ve been doing well of late.

“Sometimes if you dwell on these things too much it can get under the skin.”

Pilkington refused to use the dreadful Kenilworth Road pitch as an excuse for Saturday’s dire fare.

He said: “The pitch is what it is. There’s been a lot of games on there recently and the weather a month ago didn’t help. It’s no excuse, you’ve got to go out there and do your job.”

The defender is expecting more of the same from the Exiles who drew 1-1 at Kenilworth Road back in August.

He added: “With the stigma attached to Luton Town every team wants to beat you. I’m sure we will be expecting similar there.

“Newport was tough when we played them at home. There was a good tempo and 1-1 was a fair result.”
