Town defender Dan Potts is happy for the Hatters to become known for their ability to pick up 1-0 wins on the road this term, although does understand the need for them to start scoring more goals away from Kenilworth Road too.

Ahead of their 16th away fixture in the Championship this afternoon at play-off chasers Stoke City, the previous 15 encounters have seen Luton only manage to find the opposition net seven times.

Although it is the worst record in the division, it has been enough for the Hatters to win five matches, a better record than both Watford and Bournemouth, who sit in the top six.

Unsurprisingly all of Luton's victories have come courtesy of a single goal, including last weekend when Potts’ header saw Nathan Jones' men defeat struggling Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

The full back said: “Listen if you don’t concede you only need one goal and that seems to be a common theme for us this year, 1-0 away wins.

"If you don’t concede, the minimum you get is a 0-0, at the moment it’s good as its only taking one goal to win games, especially away from home.

"But we always want to push for more, get that second goal and make it a little bit more comfortable for ourselves.

"When it was 1-0 (at Birmingham), we didn't feel like we were under that much pressure at the end, we didn't concede that many chances which is always a good sign as well, so long may it continue.”

Saturday's shut out was also a ninth of the season for Town, with five of them coming away from Kenilworth Road as Luton have been a far harder side to breach then they were last term, with Potts continuing: "You speak to any of the back lads and Slugs (Simon Sluga) and he’ll be chuffed with the clean sheet.

"But the lads in front worked tirelessly and that's a fair few clean sheets already, so plenty more of them to come hopefully.

“We spoke at half time, we knew what they were going to do, we knew their options off the bench.

"I thought in the game, we transitioned really well to be able to deal with that threat and I can’t really remember them having a clear cut chance.

"They were just hoping for something to drop for them, but I thought we dealt with it well, first ball, second balls, the pitch wasn't great and we played the conditions really well and kept a good clean sheet.”

With Town some nine points clear of the relegation zone, a position that didn't alter following Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City, Potts wasn't too fussed about matters below them this term, adding: "I didn't know what it was (the gap), before and after the game.

"I don’t tend to look at it too much you know when you win games you’re only going in one direction.”
