Potts makes his Hatters return in Orient defeat

Luton Town fell to their first Final Third Development League defeat of the season as they were beaten 1-0 by fellow League Two side Leyton Orient yesterday afternoon.

Town, who were managed by Andy Awford, picked a strong side for the clash, with summer signing Dan Potts making his comeback from injury, whiel there were starts for Magnus Okuonghae, Alex Lawless, Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Mark O’Brien too.

The hosts scored the only goal of the game though on 26 minutes when Ollie Palmer beat Craig King with a low strike from outside the box.

Development and academy manager Andy Awford told the club’s official website: “Although we lost the game there were a lot of positives to take, especially the amount of minutes some of our players got under their belts.

“The only negative would be that we couldn’t convert the many chances we created. Against Gillingham we did that, but this week we didn’t.

“Overall it was a good exercise, we controlled the game for long periods, worked their goalkeeper but could not find a way through.

“You always want to win but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and 90 minutes for the likes of Dan, Magnus and Alex are a bonus.

“Winning isn’t the only thing that matters in these types of games.”

Hatters are back in action on Tuesday, when they host AFC Wimbledon in the Final Third Development League Cup, with the game taking place at Kenilworth Road, kick-off 1pm.
