Preview: No injury concerns for Still as Hatters look to bounce back against Bristol Rovers

Still’s side squandered a two-goal lead in the last 10 minutes of the game, with Oxford netting deep into injury time to salvage a point.

But the veteran manager is confident that his side will bounce back in positive fashion at Kenilworth Road tomorrow night.

Speaking after his team’s training session this morning, Still said: “The mood has been good – I think the players realise that they played well on Saturday.

“We got pulled back on Saturday, but we played well. The last 15 or 20 minutes we perhaps never pushed out enough, but I always felt in control.

“They scored from a deflected shot which you can do nothing about, it doesn’t matter who you are. Then (goalkeeper) Mark Tyler has made a mistake, but he’s been here for I don’t know how long, and you can probably count the number of mistakes he has made on one hand. That’s football.

“We have to look at the overall performance, and I was pleased with that.”

Still was keen to highlight the improvements made by his side in terms of match sharpness, and believes that this will continue as the season progresses.

“We have just got to keep our levels of performance high, we think that we will get better,” he said. “We will get some more sharpness in our game; I thought we were sharper than we had been in our first two matches and we moved the ball better. For 20 minutes, I thought the game could have been over – it could easily have been 3-0 at half-time.

“Even when they got their first goal, we kept going but they just put a ball into the box to no-one and Mark has just got his judgement wrong – that’s football and we will live with that.

“For me as a manager I like the games to come thick and fast. We were back in training today getting organised for tomorrow so everything’s fine.”

Turning his attention towards tomorrow night’s opponents, Still continued: “Like us when we came up, Bristol are quite a big club so they will have good support.

“I’ve worked at Bristol so I know what they are like there. (Bristol manager) Darrell Clarke has done a good job there and we know that they are going to be competitive and make us work hard, but we couldn’t work any harder than we have done in our first three games. It’ll be the norm for us.”

Still, though, insists that there will be no added incentive for himself personally as he faces one of his former employers.

“I’ve probably still got a bit of Dagenham in me, but nowhere else in that regard,” he said. “I’ll see some old friends which is good and which I’ll look forward to, but I’ve played Bristol enough times now.”

On his likely team selection for the clash, the Hatters manager added: “Touch wood, we haven’t got any injuries; everyone is fit and everyone is available. We will sit down this afternoon and go through what we think we should play, but I don’t think there will be many if any changes if I’m being honest.

“At the moment, our three centre-halves have been terrific and we’ve done that in our last two games. We’ve been happy with that so we will probably not look to change the system and the more you do it, the better you get at it.”
