Promotion is a must for Hatters captain

Hatters captain Steve McNulty has declared that nothing less than promotion would be deemed good enough for Town’s players this season.

The skipper has seen his side been busy in the transfer market over the summer, bringing in some quality additions, including the likes of Craig Mackail-Smith, Paddy McCourt, Scott Cuthbert and Danny Green.

That has seen the expectation ratcheted up amongst both players and supporters, with McNulty saying: “We always discuss our aims and last season we were quietly confident that we could do it.

“It would be wrong for me to stand here and tell you that we’re going to win the league, and going to win promotion, it’s never that easy.

“But the group of lads that we’ve got in there and the players we’ve brought in, we know where we should be at the end of the season, and we’ll be doing everything we can to get there.

“If we don’t get promoted this year then we’ll be really, really disappointed.”

McNulty expects every one of the new 11 signings made by boss John Still this year to help improve those who remained as part of the squad during the close season.

He added: “We’ve made new signings and hoping those signings can kick us on. I think we were one of the favourites last year, but we didn’t prevail, hopefully this is going to be our year.

“We’ve made signings, significant signings that have come from a higher level, so hopefully they’ll improve us and kick us on this year and we can get ourselves promoted.”
