Rea annoyed that Town conceded so quickly after going ahead against Boro

Midfielder Glen Rea was left slightly frustrated that Luton didn’t take all three points against Middlesbrough during their 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

The Hatters put themselves in the driving seat after 19 minutes, Rea himself nodding home from close range following visiting keeper Jordan Archer’s wonderful save, somehow tipping Kal Naismith’s close-range header on to the bar.

However, Boro equalised within 60 seconds courtesy of Duncan Watmore’s free header, as top scorer James Collins then missed a penalty with 20 minutes remaining, meaning the hosts had to make do with a point.

Rea said: “Maybe it was a fair result, maybe we deserved to win, but I felt we did well.

“It’s very annoying their goal, to give it away straight from kick-off.

"I’m not too sure how it came about, but we’ll dissect it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We want to finish the season as strong as we can.

"We wanted to win obviously, but it didn’t happen, so we just move on to Tuesday.”

Rea’s goal was his third of the season, with his other two against Nottingham Forest and Bristol City also coming at the same Oak Road End.

The 26-year-old continued: “It was a great save from the keeper, a great header and an unbelievable save, how he’s managed to keep that out really?

"It just bounced down and I think a few of us could have tapped it in, but it was nice that I was there first to tap it in.

“They’re all at that end without the fans, it’d be nice if the fans were here as I’d be in there with them.

“It’s nice to get a goal, but there’s no personal thing with goals.

"It’s whoever scores, scores and you just try and do the best for the team, that’s the agenda.

"We want to get to where we want to get to this season and two games to go we’ll keep pushing.”
