Town midfielder Glen Rea insists the Hatters can keep their level of improvement going into next season.

The Hatters have made massive strides in the Championship this term, as following Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Rotherham, moved on to 61 points, which is now their best tally in the second tier since the 1981-82 campaign, when they won the division.

After a season battling against the drop and only avoiding relegation on the final day, Town are now guaranteed a top half position ahead of tomorrow's final outing against QPR.

That would then ramp up the pressure slightly to continue that upward spiral going into the new season as Luton have finished higher every year since manager Nathan Jones first arrived in 2016.

However, Rea is ambitious enough to believe it can happen saying: “If we keep improving like we have done since the manager came here and personally since I’ve been here as we’ve gone play-offs, promotion, promotion, staying in the league, better finish in the league, who knows what can happen?

“You just strive to go into every game and try to win it.

“You can’t predict the future, football’s up and down, everyone knows that, you’ve just got to live in the moment and that’s what we do.

“We’ll strive to try and win football games and see where that leaves us.

"I know we’ve improved and that we can improve even more.”

It was a similar thought process for boss Jones too who won’t be happy just settling for another position above the midway point next term.

He added: “I don’t just want to be a top half team.

“Last year we avoided relegation, we are seen at the minute as relegation candidates, we have put that to bed in emphatic fashion as we’ve never been anywhere near the bottom three and regardless of what other people say, we feel that we are establishing ourselves as a Championship side.

“To do that on our budget is a phenomenal achievement, trust me, phenomenal.

“Now we don’t harp on about our budgets and bemoan them, no, we know the structure we have here.

“But for us to be competing with what we have, because everyone else who is on the same budget as us, is on 40 points and is going into the last week on a knife edge.

“So for us to be doing what we’re doing is phenomenal work and that’s a credit to everyone, it’s not just the players, it’s the whole club and as a club we’re moving forward.

“We want to be established at this level, we don’t just want to establishing ourselves at that level and maybe that’s pie in the sky, maybe that’s unrealistic ambition, but that’s the ambition.”
