It was a case of roles reversed for attacker Elliot Lee after he came off the bench to grab his first goal of the season against Wycombe on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who signed a new contract in the summer, had started all three of Luton's previous Championship matches this term, although found himself replaced in each game, usually by Jordan Clark.

Town's summer signing went on to have a big impact during his cameos, scoring the late winner in a 2-1 victory over Derby County last month.

However, this time it was Lee who popped up with a decisive strike, coolly slotting into the bottom corner from another replacement, Kazenga LuaLua's fine work and cross to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond doubt.

It was his 30th goal in total for the club over two spells, and also the first time he has netted in a win over Wycombe, as his previous four goals came in two 3-2 defeats.

Jones said: “Kazenga did wonderful late on, then a cool head and great finish.

"Usually it’s been Elliot who has put in a real good shift for 60, 65 minutes, coming off and Jordan Clark coming on and getting all the plaudits, so we've reversed it a little bit.

"I said (to Lee) when the game opens up, 'I’m going to need your quality.'

"I remember Elliot having a wonderful game here even though we lost the game (to Wycombe), he was probably our best player when we lost 3-2 the year we got promoted.

"So I knew when the game opened up, I would need his quality, and I'm delighted with that.”

Lee became the fifth player to score for Luton in the Championship already this term, following Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu opening his account too, as Jones was pleased to see his side looking dangerous from all areas, while sharing the goals around too.

He continued: "We felt if we could isolate our wide men we had quality against them and Harry put a great ball back for Luke Berry, so we feel we have threats in wide areas.

"They have to get better as they have to score, but it’s pleasing that our wide men are scoring, our midfielders are scoring.

"So when Collo (James Collins) doesn't score, or Hylts (Danny Hylton) doesn't score, everyone is and at the minute we’re chipping in so that’s pleasing."

Mpanzu, who had opened the scoring himself with a marvellous curling effort from outside the area, added: "We know we’ve got quality coming off the bench all the time, anyone coming can swap in and play.

"Kaz and El linked up well and I'm delighted that El got his first goal of the season now."
