Still believes Town will maintain promotion push

Town head to Mansfield this evening knowing a win would move them back into the top three.

Luton are currently on a 10 game unbeaten run in League Two and have suffering just five league defeats all season as Still said: “I probably take a real interest in it (the table) with about a dozen (games) to go.

“We’ve maintained our form all season though, there’s going to be ups and downs, that’s football, but there’s no reason for me that our form will drop away.

“Will we have a hiccup and lose one or two? Maybe we will, but our form, I’m pretty sure will be maintained and I think we’ll finish the season strongly.

“If someone asked me, would I sooner be top or three points behind the leaders now, I don’t know what I’d say.

“Maybe being just behind. We were behind for quite some time last year and it rolled on and rolled on.

“Pressure mounts on the people in front. Will it happen to the people in front this time? We don’t know, so I don’t really know what I’d choose.

“A few games ago I wouldn’t have minded being a touch behind as I know we can finish strong.

“Now I’m not really sure, but what I do know is if we can get a result tomorrow, we’ll be in a great position.”

Mansfield face a battle for their League Two status this term, sitting just two points above the drop zone with two wins in the last 10 games.

However, Still wasn’t taking anything for granted, pointing to fellow strugglers York City, who Luton drew with 2-2 last Tuesday.

He continued: “We found with York, teams that are down there, battling for their lives and that makes them a very dangerous opponents you have to respect.

“Every week it’s tough, but we’re tough and you’ve got to grind it out sometimes.

“Last season there were games where we blew teams away, this is a tougher league and we haven’t had always the right combinations with injuries.

“You’ve got to tough it out and find a little bit of quality at the right times. Fortunately we’ve been doing that and we hope we can do it, but we knows it’s going to be tough.”

The Field Mill playing surface could be a real leveller this evening too, but Still believes his side have learned to cope on such surfaces since their Morecambe debacle.

He added: “We learned quite a lot when we went to Morecambe. Sometimes you’ve got to play the conditions as well as the team.

“The home team will know how the pitch is, when we get there we’ll find out how it is.

“It’s important we can deal with any situation, the pitch being one of them.”
