Still confident Town are making progress

Luton eventually finished in eighth place after a campaign which saw them top the table back in October, spending almost six months in the top seven.

Still said: “When people say would you have settled for this at the start of the season, my answer to that would be, ‘no, I wouldn’t have settled for it.’

“Because I wanted to go up, we’ve done everything we can to go up.

“I can turn round and give as many excuses that we haven’t gone up as I want, and it’s well documented about injuries.

“But I’m very, very proud of where we are, very, very proud of the progress we’ve made and very, very proud of the infrastructure that’s been put in.

“The first day here I always remember saying about building foundations to build the football club from within.

“When we do that, and we will do that, when John Still is long gone, if they stay with that this club will grow and grow.”

Although Hatters failed to produce the hugely unlikely eight goal swing on the final day to leapfrog Plymouth Argyle, defender Michael Harriman praised his side’s effort in the 2-0 win over Stevenage.

He said: “I thought we were brilliant, we set out to try and chase that play-off place and we started really well, scored early on and noticed Stevenage tried to slow things down.

“But other than that, it was one of our best performances of the season, we dominated from start to finish.

“I didn’t know what was going on elsewhere, I just tried to focus on our own thing.

“Even if we didnt make the play-offs, we wanted to finish on a high and that’s what we did, we were buzzing from minute one.”

Harriman also felt that by doing the double over Stevenage, who finished in sixth place, bodes well for the new season.

He said: “They’re in the play-offs, so to show we could have and maybe should have been around it was good.

“We’ve dominated teams and just did it again, from the first minute we were on top on the front foot and have got to take it in to next year.

“Apart from the horrible run we had, we were fantastic all season, but we’ll learn from that and be up there again next year.”
