Still doesn’t feel Town’s squad is too big

The Hatters currently have 40 professionals on their books, including six loan players too, despite releasing both Paul Connolly and Luke Rooney recently.

A fair few of Luton’s players are youngsters who themselves have currently been borrowed by other clubs though as Still said: “I have this thing about a young group and my young group, it is about nine or 10 players and that looks like the squad is immense.

“But we’ve played some games lately where the 18 we’ve got is all we’ve got. That other group are normally out on loan at clubs.

“Is the squad too big? Well when everyone’s fit, of course it is, but we haven’t had everyone fit, so that’s been a problem.

“If you look at the amount of professionals that we have, top level, there’s also lots of 18 and 19-years-olds, (Danny) Fitzsimons, (Brett) Longden, (Zane) Banton, Charlie Smith, Rees, Charlie Walker, Mark Onyemah, all out on loan, who are young boys we think might have a chance.

“It takes you two or three years to get this system underway and that will fine-tune a bit. But if I look at the players that have been injured, I don’t know what we would have done if we’d have had a small squad.”
