Still eagerly anticipating clash with ‘formidable’ Pompey

The south coast club were one of the main favourites for promotion this season and have started the season impressively, with two wins and two draws so far.

Speaking about Pompey, Still said: “Like Luton, they’re club that would think they should be playing higher. They’ve had their problems, they’re going to be a formidable opponent, they really are.

“It’s a great game to play. They’re a good side with good players, but we’re a good side with good players as well, so I’m sure it will be an entertaining game.”

Pompey appointed Chesterfield boss Paul Cook in the summer, with the manager dropping down from a club he had just led to the League One play-offs.

Still continued: “He’s done very well. With Portsmouth they’re a club that would like to think they’ll be a challenging club, like us.

“They’ve got fantastic support, they’ve brought in some good players, (Matt) Tubbs scores goals, he’s a threat, but they’ll have lots of threats, it’s going to be a good test for us.

“These are the best games and in my job, I love the games. To see how we’re getting on, how we’re doing and where we need to be improving, lets hope the home game on Tuesday has helped push us on a team.”

One player who Town will be coming up against is AFC Bournemouth striker Jayden Stockley, who signed on loan at Fratton Park before the new season.

Still said: “Jayden did a good job for us. I wouldn’t say everyone supporter-wise was completely convinced about him, but I’d have loaned him again if we needed that sort of player.

“He’s a great lad, great attitude, worked his socks off for the football club and he’s a smashing, smashing, smashing lad to have around the place, I look forward to saying hello to him.”

Meanwhile, Still admitted he would be tapping into the memory banks of Hatters Youth Academy and Development manager Andy Awford who was in charge of Pompey last season.

He added: “We will, of course, because we’d be stupid not to. So we’ve already been talking about what we think and what we don’t think and I’m sure Andy will have a part to play in one or two things.”
