Hatters boss John Still got exactly what he wanted from Town’s convincing 5-0 victory over Hitchin Town on Thursday night.

Striker Alex Wall bagged a hat-trick, while Shaun Whalley and Mark Cullen both scored too, as Town were far too strong for their Southern Premier Division opponents.

Still said: “I don’t put too much into results, but all the things I was hoping we might do we did.

“We moved it quickly and I just wanted to give some people 60 minutes, some people not as much.

“We could have had a few more, but the most important thing was people getting a bit of time and getting into the touch pass, pass move.

“I was quite pleased, especially for one or two of the newer ones.

“Everyone that’s been involved who didn’t have a knock like Smudge (Jonathan Smith) and Benno (Paul Benson) got a little bit of time, so we’ll push on now from that.

“The ones who didn’t get as much will get longer on Sunday as there’s two games at the weekend, but I just felt that was the right way to go this evening and I was really pleased.”

Summer signing Luke Wilkinson was one of the stand out performers in his hour on the pitch, as Still continued: “Luke came in and settled in with Macca (Steve McNulty) like he’s played for a long time.

“He didn’t train in Portugal but looked very good, although needs to get a bit fitter now.

“I moved Fraser (Franks) to right back, I know he can play right back, I’ve seen him play there and although we’re covered at right back, it gave me an opportunity to see him there as well.

“(Alex) Lacey looked very comfortable, Jim Stevenson who did very well at Dartford, Pelly (Ruddock Mpanzu) was exciting to watch, bursting into situations.

“Everyone’s done what he had hoped they would do, got no disappointments at all.”
