On Howells, who made his debut as a 17-year-old against Huddersfield in 2008, Still said: “To have all those games is incredible, absolutely incredible. He should be very proud of himself and I’m very proud of Jake to have gone through what he’s gone through, the highs and lows of the club and come out of it.

“He’s back into the Football League, his 300th game on the horizon, it shows he’s a remarkable young man.

“To overcome all the obstacles and hurdles, to be playing back in the league is a fantastic testament to him.

“When I look at Jake’s situation, to play 300 games for anyone is fantastic. To play in the circumstances he’s played in and to play under so many different managers, well that’s a fantastic thing.

“Some managers don’t fancy players, but whoever has been here has obviously been more than happy with Jake.

“He should be very, very, very, very proud of that achievement come Saturday and we should all be very, very, very proud of him.”

Meanwhile, defender Scott Griffiths would love to see his team-mate mark the occasion with a goal as he added: “It’s great, especially at his age, it’s tremendous.

“I might see if I can help him out with an assist on Saturday just to make the occasion right. That would be nice for him.”
