Still: Hatters couldn’t compete with Palace for Anderson

The teenager made the stunning move to Selhurst Park on transfer deadline day after scoring against the Eagles for Brentford in a development game.

Anderson had been training with Luton in recent weeks, but according to Still, a deal just couldn’t be pushed through.

He said: “That’s the reason why he didn’t come here. We were talking to him and talking to his club but they didn’t want to rush into anything.

“I think they were always waiting for the best that they could get and I’m not moaning about that, they have to do that for themselves.

“But he trained here for a while and we were talking to them but they weren’t rushing to do it, they wanted to leave it as long as they could.

“He’s gone there, so good luck to him.”

Although disappointed to miss out on Anderson, Still felt it justified the scouting network he had in place, revealing he had been interested in Ilkeston’s Che Adams, who recently joined League One Sheffield United and netted twice in the Capital One Cup semi-final against Spurs.

He added: “It just goes to show that our observation of identifying talent is quite good, because the boy that went to Sheffield United, Che Adams, was another one on our board.

“They were the same, Ilkeston, they wanted to wait and see what clubs were available, were willing to wait until the end of the season and find out.

“We can only identify them and see where we are in terms of getting them.

“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, that’s all right. The annoying thing is if you’ve watched those sorts of games and not identified them, but we have identified.

“Some you get, some you don’t and that’s life.”
