Still highlights Hylton and O’Dowda as Oxford threats

Striker Hylton is one of the division’s leading scorers with 14 goals in all competitions to his name this campaign, while wideman O’Dowda netted in the 2-0 win over Stevenage last weekend.

Still also spoke of one his former charges, keeper Ryan Clarke, who has made over 200 appearances for the club, as he said: “Danny Hylton’s done very well and when I look at Oxford, I think they’ve got one or two decent players.

“I like the young lad O’Dowda. He plays a bit wide on the left, can come in and play inside. He’s a young man with ability.

“Hylton is an obvious a threat because of his goals and I know they’ve just brought in a goalkeeper in Jamie Ashdown, but Ryan Clarke who’s in goal there was a player that I had at Bristol Rovers years ago.

“I’ve always liked him and he’s denied me on a few occasions with good saves.

“Once again, they’re more a team than individuals, but you’ve got to pay respect to a goalscorer, got to pay respect to a provider and if Clarke is on form, he isn’t easy to beat.”

The U’s have struggled this season, sitting just five points above the relegation zone, as Still continued: “Oxford are a proper football club, but with Chris (Wilder) going from there, Michael Appleton, who has managed at a higher level, he’s gone in and would they have expected to do a bit better? Probably.

“But sometimes when people talk about what’s expected at a club, if you’re not involved with a club, you might have an expectation of what it might be, which might be different to if you’re working there.

“I do know that they’re a proper football club with proper support and looking from the outside in, people that are involved might have a slightly higher expectation for them than perhaps where they are.

“I know they’ve got good players, good support and it will be a tough game.”

The U’s are without a home win in four, losing three and only snatching a draw with Exeter City in the final minutes last time out.

Still wasn’t too fussed about such a record though as he added: “I could say yes and they could come out like a train, steaming out.

“They had a decent result last week and that might give them confidence. But if we go out and play like Luton play, whoever we play has got to play well to beat us, so I just focus on that.”
