Still insists Pompey trip has come at the right time

Despite Hatters’ recent struggles on the road, boss John Still believes that Saturday’s trip to Portsmouth has come at just the right time for his side.

Luton have lost their last three away games, and only won once since October 18, while they head to a Pompey side who have enjoyed a good run of results at Fratton Park, taking 10 points from 12, as manager Andy Awford and midfielder Jed Wallace won the League Two monthly awards.

Still said: “They’ve picked up and I think we would all be surprised they weren’t doing particularly well.

“But they have picked up and it will be a great game Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to a good game, a proper atmosphere game, against a team that are in form.

“We have to be able to say we’re ready to play the game, I think that the game has come at a good time for us, I think it’s the right time to play this game.

“They’re in form, we know we need to pick up to try and keep in the promotion shake-up, so I think it’s a good opportunity and a game that people would want to play in.”

Town will be cheered on by 2,689 fans after they sold out their allocation in double quick time and Still believes it will help to create an atmosphere his players should thrive in.

He continued: “Supporter wise it’s a good game. They’re going to enjoy going to a ground that probably wouldn’t have expected to see League Two football.

“The amount that we take, only one of two teams in our league that would sell their allocation, the atmosphere created from the home and away support for our players is very good.

“I think everyone will be looking forward to it, so lets see what we can do.”

Meanwhile, Pompey are expected to be spearheaded upfront by striker Matt Tubbs who scored the winner for AFC Wimbledon at Kenilworth Road earlier in the campaign.

Still added: “He’s someone whose always scored goals. We would have to be aware of what he brings to the table, but they have other decent players that will give us a problem, so we just have make sure we’re on our game.”
