Still left searching for answers after Bury reverse

The visitors were second best for large periods on the night and Still was left wondering whether he made the right call in playing the likes of Luke Guttridge, Steve McNulty, Luke Wilkinson and Alex Lawless all at the same time.

He said: “I’m going to have look at myself, how I’ve planned this out, I don’t really know until I assess it, look at myself as well as the players.

“People like Alex Lawless, playing second half, he’s still getting back to fitness, Gutts is getting into his games, but Saturday, Tuesday, is that a touch too much?

“Macca’s (Steve McNulty) missed four games, so perhaps he’s not as sharp as he would like to be.

“Those are things that I need to look at for myself, because he’s missed four games. Wilko’s missed three games, but I didn’t think either of those were as sharp as they should be.

“That’s not their fault, that might be my fault for actually bringing them back together too quick.

“But I look at that and think to myself that the sooner they get back playing, get back into the right vein of form, the sooner we get back on it.

“Maybe the two of them wasn’t perhaps quite right to do, so I will look at that myself and see if that was right to do.”

Bury could have scored more before the break too, as Town somehow kept them out, as Still said: “I was comfortable with their formation, I wasn’t particularly comfortable with ours.

“They had too many runners, they had too many crosses in the first half and in the second half without doing too much from my end of it, the players were back on it.

“We posed a threat in the second half that we didn’t pose in the first half. Not only did we not pose a threat, I thought we looked disjointed, thought we were slow, but that’s how it was and that’s how it is, there’s nothing we can do about that now.”

Still made changes at half time, with Nathan Oduwa and Alex Lawless replacing Jake Howells and Elliot Lee, while striker Mark Cullen was introduced with an hour gone,

He added: “We tried to get Gutts (Luke Guttridge) behind a two as we did on Saturday because it worked quite well.

“It didn’t worked quite as well this time, so we went back to our normal 4-2-3-1, one off the front man.

“It’s probably the system that works for us the best as we stopped a lot of their crosses, and we picked up more second balls than we picked up in the first half.

“We were able to mount reasonable attacks and the goalkeeper made a couple of very good saves, while without us deserving it, he’s made a miraculous save in the first half.

“We possibly deserved to get a goal for our efforts, that doesn’t mean to say we deserved to win as I don’t think we did.”
