Still ready for ‘nuisance’ Ellison

The 36-year-old is the Shrimps leading scorer with 10 goals this season, including one in the 3-0 victory over Hatters back in December.

Still said: “He’s a nuisance Kevin, he does great for them and I’ve known Kevin since he played for Altrincham years ago,

“He’s a hard working, have a go striker. He never gives up, he’s not slow to give an opinion, not slow to rev the boys up.

“He’ll put his foot in as a forward as well and I like Kevin as a person a lot. We always have a chat when I see him, he will epitomise Morecambe and it’s important we keep Kevin quiet.”

Ellison bagged his 50th strike for the Shrimps during Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Oxford and has notched over 100 goals in his career.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley told the club’s official website: “His 50th goal for Morecambe is a great achievement.

“He’s obviously the player away fans love to hate and our fans love him.

“On that evidence I’m sure everyone watching will say he’s got years left in him.”

Town captain Steve McNulty wasn’t too worried about playing against Ellison once more though, as he said: “I look forward to having a battle with everyone as there’s no easy games in this league.

“You can’t think you can just turn up and get the three points, it’s a really tough league and you’re coming up against better opposition than we did last season.

“No matter who you’re playing against, we’re always going to be in for a tough game.”

Morecambe are currently ensconced in mid-table, eight points off the play-offs, but Still believes they will be a difficult opponent with the top seven still in mathematical reach.

He continued: “We were poor there earlier on this year and they’re competitive, hard-working side, everyone does their bit.

“They remind me a bit of Accrington, everyone has to pull their weight kind of club.

“I know the people there very well, they’re really good people, Jim Bentley and his staff, so it’s going to be a really, really tough game.

“It doesn’t matter who you play and where it is. League position at this stage of the season doesn’t really matter as everyone’s got something to play for, so that makes it a tough game.”

McNulty himself was dismissed after just 28 minutes in the 3-0 reverse at the Globe Arena and admits Town do need to put that result right.

He added: “I don’t think about going and getting revenge, although we do own them one.

“We won’t be worrying about the last game, we’re worried about preparing for Morecambe, getting three points and then moving on to the next game.”
