Still to use whole squad against Canaries

The Luton chief used 21 players during the 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood on Tuesday night and expects it to be no different at Top Field.

He said: “At Hitchin on Thursday, everyone can get 45 minutes, before we can then play a team for 90 minutes on Saturday and Monday (against Peacehaven and Gosport).

“We did all our hard work in Portugal, so now we can work a bit more on football, sharpness and look forward to the three tough home games where we’ll probably be a little bit better, but it’s all about when the whistle goes on August 8.”

On the match with Wood, in which Town fell behind early in the second period, before rescuing a draw through trialist Craig Mackail-Smith, Still continued: “It was the first time we’ve seen them in action and there was no method behind what we picked.

“We just picked two teams, to try and see who can play with how. There were some good things, some poor things, we were bit slow at times, but I was really just pleased everyone got 45 minutes, with no injuries.

“There was some decent inter-play, some ordinary defending, some hard work in midfield, but almost exactly what we get every year.”

Speaking about some of the new signings who featured during the match, Still added: “Mark O’Brien was strong, Danny Potts looked to have very good quality, good energy and knows how to defend.

“Paddy McCourt does what he does, he can light a game up, he’s got that extra bit of quality.

“He’s in a difficult place at the moment as his season was quite long with playing for Northern Ireland, so he had a break and he’s a bit behind the others, but he’ll be ready.

“I thought Josh McCouid looked sharp, good energy, everyone showed lots of the stuff that I thought they’re capable of without the cohesion of a team.

“If we’d have come out and won five or 6-0, everyone would have gone great, but we’d still be in the same position, we wouldn’t be ready, that’d only be a false dawn.
