Still urges Town to produce more magic moments

The Hatters go into the contest on the back of a six game winning run in the league, their latest triumph coming against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night.

Despite not being at their best, a quickfire double from Mark Cullen moments before half time, saw Luton emerge comfortable victors as Still said: “We’re going to have to be what we always are, ready for it and we have to play with the same pace, power, determination and quality that I think we have been doing.

“Fortunately as we showed the other night, we’re capable of spells in games where we can just go up a notch.

“We did it and got two goals, and then in the second half, we had a fantastic box to box move that Pelly (Ruddock) Mpanzu should have finished.

“Then Smudge (Jonathan Smith) hit the post, but we’re capable of those magic moments, I think we have to make those magic moments tell, and we are.

“As the season goes, the magic moments might last for longer spells, but sometimes they haven’t got to last long.

“Two goals in three minutes and we do have that capability, so we have to make sure we can reproduce that regularly and at the moment we are.”

Hatters’ start to the campaign has almost mirrored last term, as they didn’t get off to the best of beginnings, before putting together a massive 27-game unbeaten run and eventually romping to the Conference title.

Although nowhere near replicating that sequence yet, Still could see the similarities as he continued: “It’s weird, but over the years, I’ve found out that’s how it goes in terms of getting into our stride.

“The work we do, the way we work, I just think it’s the right thing for the season. Whether that’s a contributory factor how we work pre-season I’m not sure, but we have tended to start slower.

“It’s funny as I don’t think we’ve played poorly, we’ve played better this year than the season started last year without getting the right results.

“Look back the Wimbledon game and the Plymouth game, they could have gone the other way, but didn’t.

“So I always say the same thing, as long as you’re seeing what you want to see, comfortable about how training’s going, not seeing anything that alarms you there, then gradually things work and it has been similar.”
