Town go into tonight’s clash with Carlisle United trailing leaders Plymouth Argyle by 12 points and are eight away from third-placed Northampton.

Victory could move Luton into the play-offs though as Still said: “The league doesn’t settle down until the end of January, February and you start to get little breakaways.

“We want to make sure we’re in the group that’s breaking away. The team has done very well, played very well, competed very well recently.

“We had this before though, hit a little bit of consistency, looked good and then we never made the most of our opportunities in a couple of games.

“But since we’ve picked it up, our performances have been very good, we’ve been scoring goals, so lets hope we can score some on Tuesday evening.”

On the threat of the Cumbrians, who are immediately above Hatters in ninth place, Still said: “They’ve been strong this year, they’ve had some good results, a good result Saturday (2-2 with Portsmouth) coming back late in the game.

“I hope so (Carlisle come to attack). I think it makes it a better game regardless. They have scored goals and Jabo’s (Ibehre) scored goals.

“Hopefully it’s an entertaining game and I hope we have just enough in the tank to come out on top.

“Like all games, they’re all tough, but I think every club is used to tough games now.

“Whoever you play, you have to be up for the challenge and up for the fight and be up for the contest. We have been so I don’t see that being any different.”
