Still wants to guard against League Two’s inconsistencies

The Cobblers have lost the last three matches after winning four out of six recently to slide down into mid-table.

But Still is well aware they could turn that form around at Kenilworth Road as he said: “I think the level can be unpredictable. Shrewsbury beat us 2-0 and if I’m honest, we were lucky to get nil, I thought they were better than us.

“I don’t think they’ve won away since, maybe once, but I look at them and they looked a really, really good side.

“Bury looked good against us and got beat 5-0 by Shrewsbury, so you can watch someone on a Saturday and go, not great, or they’re like Real Madrid.

“Then you play them and they’re either much, much better than they were or nowhere near as good as they were.

“There is unpredictability in this league, so you have have to guard against the unpredictability.”

Hatters are expecting their biggest gate of the season this afternoon, while when discussing the threat of Northampton, Still continued; “He’s a very good friend of mine the manager there, Chrissy Wilder.

“It was a very brave move of him last year to leave Oxford and they’re a very strong team.

“We expect a really, really tough encounter on Saturday against a really strong opponent.”

Hatters’ managed to pick an unchanged side for the first time this season during the 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night and on the chances of doing so again, Still added: “In an ideal world it’s the best way.

“If you’re doing well you don’t want to chop and change, but for various reasons, you do.

“If you have a really, really top class player out and the player that’s come in might be a bit younger, you’re still looking for him to come in and get the experience.

“You might leave him in for a game or two but then think I’m going to change back to that little bit of extra knowledge, that little bit of understanding.

“But to have that same group you can almost put out every week when you’re doing well is a massive plus as the more you play together, the more you gel, the more you understand, the more you build up combinations.”
