Still won’t be affected by sentiment for Posh cup clash

The Luton chief has a number of former Posh players in his squad at Kenilworth Road, with keeper Mark Tyler something of a legend at the ABAX Stadium, making 486 appearances, the second in the club’s history.

Tyler himself has already stated he wants to be picked on merit alone and Still, who played Elliot Justham in the previous round against Crawley, confirmed that would be the case, saying: “It would not influence me one bit, if Mark plays it won’t be because, ‘oh I should play Mark because he’s been there.’

“It’s different times that you play the games, there are times that you think just need to have a little change there. Will Saturday be one of them? I’m not sure it would be the right time to do that.

“We’ll have our meeting but sentiment won’t play any part in it whatsoever.

“If we think Mark should play we’ll play him and if we think Elliot should play we’ll play him.”

Nathan Doyle could come back into contention after playing 90 minutes for the reserves on Wednesday in a 2-1 defeat at Cambridge, alongside Magnus Okuonghae and Stephen O’Donnell.

Still continued: “Magnus played 90 minutes which is what we needed, Doyle played 90 minutes which was what we needed, Stephen O’Donnell played 90 minutes, they were the things we were hoping to get.

“In an ideal world, for me, we would probably want at least Magnus and Steve O’Donnell to play next weeks development game, to err on the side of caution.

“Mags is fine injury-wise and we said that anything we got this year before Christmas we’d be delighted with, so he’s well on course for that and looking better and better.

“O’Donnell, that’s his first one, we would like him to have another one, but Doyle has done a bit more training, so probably he could be included,”

Meanwhile, on Luke Guttridge, Dan Potts and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, Still added: “Gutts is training, Potts is just started training and Pelly is a lot, lot better.

“All the swelling’s gone now so we can start doing a bit more functional things now and lets hope he can keep improving daily.”
