Town chief Nathan Jones believes striker Sam Nombe is ‘very close’ to making his debut for the Hatters.

The 22-year-old arrived from MK Dons on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move in October, with a record of two goals in 31 league games for his parent club.

Since then, he has been on the bench four times for Luton, but is yet to get on, although Jones admitted that he could change in the near future.

He said: “He’s very, very close, Sam Nombe, we’re really pleased with him.

“We worked with him the other day and we’re just contemplating when to bring him in.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to MK Dons in terms of the step up, because MK Dons are a good footballing side, but in terms of what we demand from him, he’s at the level that we need him to be at now.

"We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do.”
