Luton chief executive Gary Sweet described it as ‘wonderful’ to finally open the Kenilworth Road doors to supporters again last week.

Town’s home game against Norwich City was watched by 1,000 fans, the first time a crowd had been inside the ground since the 1-1 draw with Stoke on February 29.

After triumphing 3-1, the Hatters now have permission to double that attendance number when Preston North End are the visitors tomorrow, as Sweet told the Luton News: “It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces and everything went extremely well last Wednesday.

“All authorities, including the SAG (Safety Advisory Group), were more than happy with the way it was managed, operationally.

“This is ultimately the basis upon which we were able to increase to 2,000 on Saturday and we have our 1,000 ambassadors to thank for that.

“We also carried out a questionnaire with all those who attended with barely a negative comment.

“Just as much care will be taken on Saturday and as we move forward and confidence is gathered we’ll make gradual improvements to the way we operate and what we can offer.”
