United, fresh from a shock 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace, open up their cup campaign at Kenilworth Road but they’ll do so by fielding a ‘weaker’ team.

Dean Henderson is set to make his Red Devils debut in between the sticks while Mason Greenwood and Dan James are among the senior teams who could feature from the start.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford have also travelled and are reportedly likely to see some action.

“We’ll make some changes,” Solskjaer said.

“Of course we will. For some, it’s the pre-season and, for some, they’ve only been here for a week now for different reasons.

"Some of them need game-time, they do and we can see we’re lacking in sharpness. We just need to make the most of the training sessions and games we have.

”No injuries, no fresh injuries after that game (on Saturday) but, as I said, we’ll rotate and give some minutes.

“Some, after the game, will do some harder training this week to get ready for Brighton. Some will join the squad and go down there.”

While some star names could appear for United, Luton Town have nothing to fear as Nathan Jones’ men head into the game in good form.

The Hatters have collected maximum points from their opening two Championship matches – beating Barnsley and Derby County.
