Hatters manager Nathan Jones wants his side to show a reaction when they take on league leaders Norwich City at Kenilworth Road this evening.

Luton go into the game against the Canaries, which will have 1,000 fans in attendance, on the back of a hugely disappointing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Cardiff on Saturday.

They now go head-to-head with a visiting side who have climbed to the top of the table on the back of a 10-game unbeaten run and are clear favourites for a swift return to the Premier League.

Speaking yesterday, Jones said: “We haven’t been able to do a hell of a lot because we were training yesterday (Monday), debriefed today (Tuesday) and did some work prepping for the game and so on.

“Hopefully I’ll get a reaction because they’re not dumb, they know they let themselves down, there will be disappointed people in there, there is a lot that happened that’s not just black and white in terms of the result.

“A few things happened prior to kick-off and so on which meant that but we don’t say that on a match-day but look, there’s a lot of things that happened because that was an uncharacteristic performance for Luton Town and we want to put that right.”

When asked if the Hatters fringe players have shown even more in training this week knowing that the manager could be looking to make changes to the side for the match with the Canaries, Jones continued: “We’ve got a good level in training anyway, there is no marked improvement, they train at a really good level.

"It's frustrating for them at times, especially one or two that have been in that group for a little while and there is only so much you can do.

"In training they have to set their own standards and we have a group that does that.”

The Luton chief also wants his squad to show a bit more belief, particularly at home, as the Hatters haven’t won in five, with three draws and two defeats.

He added: “Belief comes with winning games and we have been used to winning games but it’s tough.

“We should have been out of sight against Birmingham make no bones about it, that was just we didn’t make the right decisions on the day.

"Blackburn, they haven’t lost since we’ve played them, they are a free-flowing wonderful side and we have to be very careful what we do against sides like that and I thought we were excellent, I really did.

“I thought we were brave for 60/65 minutes, I thought it was a wonderful performance.

"We went toe-to-toe with them, then we slightly came off the gas a little bit, they scored and probably had the best last five or six minutes but apart from that, we came again as well.

"It was a good performance, look we didn’t get the win but we were toe-to-toe with them and had exactly the same amount of possession, chances and stuff like that as them.”
