Luton boss Nathan Jones doesn’t think that Cardiff boss Neil Harris’s position should be under any kind of scrutiny despite the Bluebirds less than satisfactory start to the season.

After reaching the play-offs last term with a fifth-placed finish, City have struggled to string results together this time around, with just three victories and only one from six attempts on home soil.

Wednesday night’s 1-0 reverse at Coventry City was their fifth defeat of the season already, meaning they go into their contest against Luton sitting 18th in the table, nine points away from the top six.

However, Jones didn’t think that Harris, who replaced Neil Warnock as manager in November last year, should be worried about his future, saying: “I wouldn’t say Neil Harris is under pressure, Neil Harris did a wonderful job last year and got them in the play-offs.

The Championship is one of those things, someone told me once that you don’t have to do a hell of a lot different in the Championship to go four unbeaten or to get four or five defeats on the spin because it is that type of league.

“Neil is experienced, they are not in a precarious position in any way shape or form.

"There are far more teams in precarious positions, plus he brought himself a little bit of leeway because he has done fantastic work there.

“It’s never a good time to play Cardiff, especially away, because they’re a tough side to play.

“They have got experienced Championship players, a lot with Premier League experience so it’s a tough, tough game.

“I’m not sure it’s a good time, bad time or anything to play them, It’s a Championship game and the Championship is never an easy ride.”

Harris himself wasn’t overly concerned about his job as Bluebirds boss, praising his players' efforts despite their meagre points return so far, as speaking to Wales Online, he said: "I feel the pressure because I want to succeed, I always talking about wanting to be a winner and being successful as Cardiff City manager.

"We are a club we feel should be in the top 10, fighting for the top six.

"We have earned that right this year after what we achieved last year, from November onwards. So, pressure in that sense, yes.

"What you’re really asking, do I fear for my job? No. Because I love my job and performances have been excellent.

"But I’m also acutely aware that football is a results business and I want to win games."

Jones also didn’t think that that the Bluebirds represented a tougher test for the Hatters than anything they have already come up against in recent weeks either, adding: "We played Birmingham the other day, who have brought in a high profile manager (Aitor Karanka) and then Blackburn, who are expected to get promoted.

"The expectation of the club is massive, I watched Cardiff, we were at the game (against Coventry), me and Mick (Harford).

"Cardiff were playing against Coventry and in the same vein of form as they are now so nothing will change.

"It will be an extremely difficult game but I have the upmost respect for a very good manager in Neil Harris.

"To say he’s under pressure, every manager is under pressure, I’m under pressure to get wins, to keep this club moving forward.

"That is the pressure of being a manager of a football club, especially at a Championship football club because it is as precarious a job as you can have in football.”
