Town chief activates his wish-list to find a replacement for Norrington-Davies

Luton boss Nathan Jones has immediately activated his wish-lists of potential full backs to bring in during the January transfer window following defender Rhys Norrington-Davies’ recall by Sheffield United on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old had been due to stay at Kenilworth Road for the entire campaign, before he was then whisked back by the Blades and swiftly sent on loan to Town's Championship rivals Stoke City.

Jones has confirmed he is now looking to bring in a replacement and when asked if the club already had players in mind in case the Welsh international did return before he was due to, he said; “We’re actively seeking to improve the squad as we do in all windows, this is one of the most difficult windows and we don’t want a knee-jerk as this is a difficult window.

“We’re going to definitely have to need to strengthen in one position which we know about and we go from there.

“We always have lists of everything, we didn’t think we'd need to activate that list quite as soon as a month ago, you asked me a question of was I delighted that the Sheffield United manager (Chris Wilder) had come out and said he’s going to stay?

"Then suddenly out of the absolute blue, he's recalled and sent to Stoke, that came as a bit of a shock.

"We didn't think we needed to activate our lists now, but we have those lists, it’s just in January those lists are far more difficult to implement.”

With Norrington-Davies heading back to Bramall Lane, it leaves Jones with just Dan Potts, Brendan Galloway and Peter Kioso as realistic options for the left back berth.

Jones had spoken of a desire to loan out former Everton defender Galloway in a bid for him to get first team football if he wants to earn a new contract at Kenilworth Road, and confirmed this was still the plan.

He added: "We've spoken about Brendan, we will let Brendan go out, because it's only fair to him, but we won't do it at our own expense.

"So we will need to bring in someone in that position, Brendan needs games and he's probably going to get that elsewhere.”
