Luton boss Nathan Jones has revealed that goalkeeper Harry Isted is expected to be loaned back to National League side Wealdstone this season.

The 23-year-old had a stint at Grosvenor Road last term as the Stones won promotion from the National League South when the campaign was ended due to the coronavirus.

He was back between the posts last night, playing for Wealdstone against Town, although was powerless to prevent Kazenga LuaLua, Jordan Clark and Andrew Shinnie finding the net in a comfortable 3-0 win for the Hatters.

Speaking afterwards, Jones admitted the move should go through, saying: "We want Harry to get game time, it's a good test for Harry and I was just hoping he didn't have too good a game and enabled them to keep a clean sheet.

“We’re delighted to loan him as we're going to hopefully loan him to these so he can get some game time which is essential.

"He's a big part of our squad, but with the two (Simon Sluga and James Shea) staying fit constantly, he needs that game time.

"So this gives him that opportunity and it was a good run out for him, thankfully we took our chances and it was a good game.”

Isted has played twice for Luton since joining from Stoke City in August 2017, both appearances coming in the Checkatrade Trophy.

He is expected to be needed for the Carabao Cup clash with Norwich City on September 5, due to Sluga’s call-up for Croatia.

Once the club record signing is back at Kenilworth Road, and Stones, managed by ex-Town midfielder Dean Brennan, are ready to kick off their season in early October, he should make the move.

Jones added: “Once it’s safe to do so, we’re quite happy for him to come back here as it was good loan spell for him.

“It’s a good club, a good affiliation with them, some of the people here we know, ex-Luton, so we always like to do that, and the most important thing is that Harry gets game time.

“As as much as he's a relentless trainer with us, that game time, that decision making, he needs that.”
