Town full back Rhys Norrington-Davies insists there is even more to come from him despite a fine start to life at Kenilworth Road.

The defender joined Luton on a season-long loan from Premier League side Sheffield United last month, and has been a first team regular since, not missing a minute of either league or cup action.

His early form led to a maiden call up for the Wales senior squad last week too, as he prepares to possibly make his debut against England this evening, and on his impressive beginning to his Town stint, Norrington-Davies said: “It’s been okay, I know I’ve got more to come for sure, as I still know that I can take my levels to another step up.

“Coming in, it was great to get straight into the team, playing, but I just want to prove myself even more, provide more for the team and hopefully we can do something special this year with Luton.”

Despite dropping down from the top flight, Norrington-Davies is taking his first steps into life as a Championship player this term.

Since moving to Bramall Lane from Swansea City as a teenager, he has spent time at Barrow in non-league and was with League One Rochdale last year.

The full back felt he was ready to play one level higher too this season, saying: “It’s a big leap, but it’s one I was hoping to come about.

“I did League One last year, thought I did well with the step up, and I thought I was ready for it if I’m honest, I thought I was ready to play Championship football.

“I’ve done okay since coming in, but I know I’ve got more to come and hopefully throughout the season I’ll just keep on getting better and better.”

Manager Nathan Jones admitted that he had been a fan of Norrington-Davies for a while, even when in charge of Stoke City, and made his acquisition top of the list in terms of left backs over the summer.

On being made aware of that, the Saudi Arabia-born defender, who moved to Wales at the age of six, said: “It’s always pleasing to hear that.

“The interest was there from early on within the transfer window, it was just a little bit of a shame we didn’t get it done sooner.

“But I still came in, and I’m here now, I’m playing for Luton Town and it’s just a joy to be here.

“It had been on the cards for a little while before I ended up coming in.

“I sat down with the gaffer, he mentioned how he likes to play, and that I was coming in as one of two left backs and it’s always good to have competition as that will push you to be even better.

“Nothing’s taken for granted, at the moment I’m playing, but next week I could be out for instance.

“So at the moment I just need to make sure I’m doing the best I can every single game, in training, and hopefully keep myself in the side.”

Having been one of four new additions in the summer, although fellow defender James Bree was well known to his team-mates, Norrington-Davies has been impressed with the spirit within the camp.

He added: “It’s been great, from the minute I came in, the boys were friendly and we meet up off the pitch.

“Some of the boys go golfing, I’m not really a number one golfer myself, but I’ll be starting to go out a little with them.

“The group in general we’re all very strong, that’s one of the main things I’ve noticed here, the togetherness of the team.

“Even if things aren’t going well, we’re all digging in for each other, so hopefully we can do something special.

“Everyone here’s technically good players, so it’s just the moments of brilliance that will win us the games really.”
