Tyler targets much-needed clean sheet at Peterborough

After keeping three successive clean sheets in the league, Luton have now been breached seven times in just two matches, but Tyler said: “They’ve scored 12 goals in three games, we’ll want to try and put that right, we want to keep them down to as little amount of shots as possible.

“I think we need to stick together in times of when it’s not going right for us, stick together as a unit, defend like it’s the last breath.

“We want to keep a clean sheet and I think the longer it goes, maybe the more frustrated they might get.

“We know we can keep clean sheets, we had three on the trot, including a tough game at Stevenage.

“Then we were 3-1 up with 20 minute to go against Carlisle, and not cruising, but we were comfortable and I just didn’t see that coming (Hatters losing 4-3).

“Against Newport we were comfortable and the first goal came, then it’s my mistakes for the two goals.

“But it’s very bizarre, we go from conceding one, to two and three, while against Carlisle it was four. Since I’ve been here we’ve never done that.

“I’m not sure if it’s just a lack of playing the right ball at the right time or just taking a step back and getting it, turning and squeezing up the pitch again.

“We need to go back to basics and not being as open maybe, that’s why they’ve got the seven goals.

“We’ve had an extra day training this week, so we can look at it, work hard on the training ground like we have done and everyone’s up for it.”

On whether they will work any different on the training pitch, Tyler continued: “We’ll still do the same things, have a normal weeks’ training, although it might be a bit more intensified with the defending.

“It might be a thing of walking through it, this is what you’ve got to do when the ball comes here and getting the solidness back so they can’t just walk through us with ease.

“But we’ll be doing that, two or three times this week and be more intensified. Then we’ll let all the strikers do their work up the front to score the goals.”

Tyler is adamant that if Luton can keep it tight at the back, they have the arsenal in their armoury going forward to cause his former side problems.

He added: “We know we can score goals, that’s not been a problem.

“The gaffer’s added quality to the squad there, and we’ve got the quality of Craig (Mackail-Smith), Jack (Marriott), Josh (McQuoid), Paddy (McCourt), Greeny (Danny Green) who’s on fire at the moment. So I think we’ll definitely go there looking to score goals and win the game.”
