Moments after replacing Paul Benson in the 70th minute, Walker met Andy Drury’s pinpoint cross to head through the legs of home keeper Chris Day, only for the ball to be hooked away before hitting the net.

The former Peacehaven striker felt the ball had crossed the line though as he said: “I thought it was in, I was off celebrating, but then turned round and saw the lineo and he hasn’t given it.

“It would have been nice for it to count and score the winner, but as long as we won, that’s all that matters.

“It would have been gutting if we’d have carried on drawing but we got the win so it doesn’t matter who got it.”

After fellow sub Alex Wall bagged the winner, Wall had words with the linesman during the celebrations as he continued: “I’ve got to really because I don’t want him to keep making the same mistakes.

“I was just a bit gutted and wanted him to watch it later and make sure he knows he’s done wrong.

“Fingers crossed there’ll be a lot more goals, so it shouldn’t matter.”

Manager John Still also thought the goal should have counted as he added: “We’re adamant that the ball was over the line for the goal,

“It would have been good, but he’s a very good player, he’ll have other moments, he’ll get his magic moment.”
