Walker frustrated to draw a blank at East Thurrock

New Hatters striker Charlie Walker was left frustrated he hadn’t been able to add to his tally during Wednesday night’s 1-1 friendly draw at East Thurrock United.

The former Peacehaven forward, who netted twice against AFC Dunstable on Saturday, had chances, including one from close range, but Town were indebted to Luke Wilkinson’s late header to rescue a share of the spoils.

Walker said: “Any time I don’t score I’m not happy, so I’m not happy.

“It was two mistakes from us and they’ve scored a goal, but we were always going to score, it looked that way and was just a case of how many and when.

“It was good to not lose, but gutting not to win.”

Unusually for a pre-season game, the hosts were reduced to 10 men just before half time when their goalkeeper was sent off for handballing outside his area.

Walker felt the official was left with little choice as he added: “You say let him off, play on, but ref’s got to do his job and it was a red card.

“They were a good team and whenever it goes down to 10 men it’s always challenging.

“You always think it will be easier, but it’s not necessarily the case.

“They just sat a bit deeper, bit more organised and were just difficult to break them down.”
